 Itsy-bitsy weaver
spinning in a fever
upon my window sill,
does it give you a thrill
ascending, descending -
your purpose pending -
along covert angle,
and sometimes dangle,
as it were, in midair?
What do you hope to snare?

Your presence disgusts me,
and yet to some degree
I am fascinated,
have watched and waited.
Since I can't see the fine
fibers of your design
your actions seem chancy,
a product of fancy.

I can only assume,
making home in my room,
you know what you're about.
Although I have my doubt
you realize how near
to becoming a smear
you are, and it's frankly
my boredom that blankly
is sparing your being.
Ignorance is freeing.

I'm a designer, too,
and I wonder how you
spiders have been wired,
what neurons have fired
in your miniscule brain.
What patterned refrain
influences your art,
tells where to stop and start.

Do you have creative
clout, or is it native
instincts that determine,
by some godly firman
handed down through species,
webs must be spun like these?
Do you adjust for space
and engineer with grace?
Are you a plain spinner
out to catch some dinner?

Or am I keeping time
with genius in its prime,
and if I could but see
I'd know your prodigy.
The truth of the matter
is I'll find in a tatter
this web some later date;
you gone, and me irate.
